Structural principle of butterfly valve
Butterfly valve (also known as flap valve) is a regulating valve with a circular valve disc or disc as the closing part. It is mainly composed of a valve body, a valve stem, a butterfly plate and a sealing ring. The valve body is cylindrical, with short axial length and built-in butterfly plate. The butterfly plate of the butterfly valve is installed in the diameter direction of the pipe. In the cylindrical channel of the butterfly valve body, the disc-shaped butterfly plate rotates around the axis with a rotation angle between 0° and 90°. When it rotates to 90°, the valve is fully open.

At present, fluorine-lined butterfly valves and rubber-lined butterfly valves, as components used to realize on-off and flow control of pipeline systems, have been widely used in many fields such as petroleum, chemical industry, metallurgy, hydropower, etc. In the known butterfly valve technology, the sealing form mostly adopts a sealing structure, and the sealing materials are rubber, polytetrafluoroethylene, etc. Due to the limitations of structural characteristics, it is not suitable for industries such as high temperature resistance, high pressure resistance, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. An existing relatively advanced butterfly valve is a triple-eccentric metal hard-seal butterfly valve. The valve body and valve seat are one-piece components, and the sealing surface layer of the valve seat is overlay-welded with temperature-resistant and corrosion-resistant alloy materials. Multi-layer soft stacked sealing rings are fixed on the valve plate. Compared with traditional butterfly valves, this kind of butterfly valve has high temperature resistance, is easy to operate, and has no friction when opening and closing. When closing, the torque of the transmission mechanism increases to compensate for the seal, which improves the performance of the butterfly valve. Excellent sealing performance and extended service life. This type of valve should generally be installed horizontally in the pipeline

 

Classifications

1. Classification according to structural form

(1) Center seal butterfly valve

(2) Single eccentric sealed coal valve

(3)Double eccentric seal butterfly valve

(4) Triple eccentric seal valve

 

2. Classification according to sealing surface material

(1) Soft seal butterfly valve.

1) The sealing pair is composed of non-metal soft material to non-metal soft material.

2) The sealing pair is composed of metal hard materials and non-metal soft materials.

(2) Metal hard seal butterfly valve. The sealing pair is composed of metal hard material to metal hard material.

 

3. Fluorine-lined butterfly valves are classified according to sealing form

(1) Forced sealing butterfly valve

1) Elastic sealing butterfly valve. The sealing specific pressure is generated by the valve plate squeezing the valve seat when the valve is closed, and the elasticity of the valve seat or valve plate.

2) Additional torque sealing butterfly valve. The sealing specific pressure is generated by the torque applied to the valve shaft.

(2) Pressurized sealed butterfly valve. The sealing specific pressure is generated by the charging of elastic sealing elements on the valve seat or valve plate.

(3) Automatic sealing butterfly valve. The sealing specific pressure is automatically generated by the medium pressure.

 

4. Fluorine-lined butterfly valves are classified according to working pressure

(1) Vacuum butterfly valve. Butterfly valve whose working pressure is lower than the standard reactor atmospheric pressure.

(2) Low pressure butterfly valve. Butterfly valve with nominal pressure PN<1.6MPa.

(3) Medium pressure butterfly valve. Butterfly valve with nominal pressure PN of 2.5--6.4MPa.

(4) High pressure butterfly valve. Butterfly valve with nominal pressure PN of 10.0--80.0MPa.

(5) Ultra-high pressure butterfly valve. Butterfly valve with nominal pressure PN>100MPa.

 

5. Fluorine-lined butterfly valves are classified according to operating temperature

(1) High temperature butterfly valve. Butterfly valve with t>450 C

(2) Medium temperature butterfly valve. 120 C<t<450 C butterfly valve

(3) Normal temperature butterfly valve. A 40C<t<;120C butterfly valve

(4) Low temperature butterfly valve. A 100<t<a 40 C butterfly valve (E) Ultra-low temperature butterfly valve. t<-100 C butterfly valve

 

6. Fluorine-lined butterfly valves are classified according to connection methods

(1) Wafer butterfly valve

(2)Flange butterfly valve

(3) Lug type butterfly valve

(4) Welded butterfly valve

 

Installation and maintenance

1. During installation, the valve disc should stop in the closed position.

2. The opening position should be determined according to the rotation angle of the butterfly plate.

3. For butterfly valves with a bypass valve, the bypass valve should be opened before opening.

4. Installation should be carried out according to the manufacturer's installation instructions. Butterfly valves with heavy weight should be installed on a solid foundation.

Precautions

1. Since the multi-layer soft stacked sealing ring is fixed on the valve plate, when the valve plate is in the normally open state, the medium will cause frontal erosion on its sealing surface. After the belt is washed away, it will directly affect the sealing performance.

2. Due to structural conditions, this structure is not suitable for valves with diameters below DN200. The reason is that the overall structure of the valve plate is too thick and the flow resistance is large.
